She’s here. She’s really here.
Yes, my edited manuscript from HarperCollins Publishers has finally arrived and now it’s my turn again to whip out the red pen and wrangle her into shape.
Did I mention she’s 95,000 words (oh, just a measly 15-20k words too long *gulp*)?
I won’t lie: I’m nervous. She’s nervous. The hairs on my head are nervous (that’s why my fringe is misbehaving in the photo. Naughty fringe).
But I’m also excited about where this process leads (hint: me having another book out for you lovely people to enjoy – meep!).
Now that it’s my second time around the block I have a vague idea about what happens next and here’s what I remember the most: time goes so much faster than I can ever imagine, yet the work somehow gets done. One minute I’m in the middle of an editing meltdown, the next, I’m seeing my published book on the shelves in Dymocks and for sale on Booktopia Online, wondering how it all came together.
But it does.
It always does.
And when it does? Oh, it’s a wonderful feeling. Better than The-Mindy-Project-binge-watching, pizza-eating and afternoon-napping combined (and that’s saying something because they’re basically my favourite things to do ever).
So I’m nervous – I may be comfort-eating Marvellous Creations ice-cream in anticipation – but mostly I’m thrilled to share Josie Browning’s next adventure with you all. It’s a goodie, I think, and I hope you’ll enjoy it, too.
I’ll see you on the other side of the edit (maybe sooner, depends how demanding she is on me!).
Gabby x
