[soapbox] my q&a with one girl org

GT-51-EditToday, I’m over at the One Girl Org website, chin-wagging about why I’m proud to be a Do It In A Dress 2014 ambassador.

Here’s a sneak peek:

Why is girls’ education SO important to you?

I’m the first to admit that I’ve had a wonderful public education. I was born and raised in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and I completed high school there. My teachers – well, most of them – were fantastic. They always encouraged me to push myself and be creative. Many of them nurtured my passion for English and drama (even my biology teacher, ha!), which I know has helped me achieve my dream of becoming an author. I want everyone – girl or boy, woman or man – to know that feeling and have the same opportunities.

What’s inspired you to get your dress on this year?

I want to see equality in all areas of life, including education around the world. The more awareness that can be given to shine a spotlight on this very important cause, the better. I was a total nerd at school – a dork, a square, a goodie-two-shoes – and my education has really set me up for a (hopefully) bright future. I don’t want anyone to miss out on that. I want to see so many bright futures out there that the world is lit up with knowledge. One in, all in!

Editing my second novel, FAKING IT! The protagonist Josie Browning is only 18 years old, so I figured the school dress can help me get into character! I was also going to take the dress out for a spin to the movies! To start with, though, I’ve re-created the photo of me on my first day of primary school, many moons ago…
